Legislative Update 05/02/22

SB 399, relative to certain provisions of the Fetal Life Protection Act requiring an ultrasound examination

STATUS: Originally introduced as a bill intended to repeal the Fetal Life Protection Act, SB 399 was amended to simply clarify the law’s narrow ultrasound requirement and that version was passed by the Senate earlier this year. Several weeks ago, the amended version of SB 399 was also given a recommendation of “Ought to Pass” by the House Judiciary Committee. The bill is now scheduled to be voted on by the full house this week.

WHEN: This Wednesday or Thursday, May 4th or 5th.

CORNERSTONE POSITION: Cornerstone supports this bill as amended.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Cornerstone is concerned that, during this week’s House session, pro-abortion extremists may attempt to use a floor amendment to turn the bill into one designed to gut the Fetal Life Protection Act. Please contact your Republican representatives and urge them to attend Wednesday’s and Thursday’s House session.  Ask that they vote to pass SB 399 as it currently stands and oppose any floor amendments.

HB 1625, repealing the prohibition on entering or remaining on a public way or sidewalk adjacent to a reproductive health care facility

WHEN: This Thursday, May 5.

CORNERSTONE POSITION: Cornerstone supports this bill.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Please contact your senator and ask that they vote in favor of the committee recommendation of OTP on HB 1625.
