Cornerstone responds to irresponsible budget comments by Governor Lynch

Today, Cornerstone Director, Kevin Smith, responded to a report that Governor Lynch told an audience in Portsmouth to fight spending cuts proposed by the House in addition to telling them that his revenue estimates were “realistic”:

Apparently Governor Lynch needs to be reminded of the old adage ‘fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.’  That fact that he would have the audacity to lecture anyone on revenue estimates just demonstrates how out-of-touch he is with reality.  Does he not understand that his own faulty revenue estimates over the last four years are what led to the state’s current $600 million dollar deficit?  Additionally, his call to fight spending cuts is exactly the kind of fiscal irresponsibility the people voted out of office last November.  What the House majority did with their budget proposal was not only a response to years of reckless spending, but they responsibly spent taxpayer dollars in manner that will finally put New Hampshire back in the black without raising taxes and fees or downshifting costs.”
