Concord, NH – Today, the NH Senate passed by a 17-7 veto-proof majority, HB329, a bill requiring parental notification of a minor seeking an abortion.  The bill was previously passed by the House, also by a veto-proof margin of 256-102.  The bill now moves to the desk of Governor Lynch for a signature or veto.

Commenting on the passage of HB329 was Cornerstone Executive Director, Kevin Smith:

“We are very pleased that the Senate passed this common sense parental notification bill by a veto-proof margin today.   The big question now is whose side will Governor Lynch be on – will he side with the rights of parents in this state or will he side with the extreme abortion lobby.”

Smith added, “Additionally, when the Governor signed the repeal of the law in 2007, he stated at that time, ‘I deeply believe that as a state we must continue to work to reduce the need for abortions and to achieve greater parental involvement in these important decisions, in a manner consistent with our constitution.’  As this version of parental notification has already passed constitutional muster, we hope Governor Lynch will keep his word to the people by signing this bill into law.”

In 2007, the state legislature repealed NH’s parental notification law.  The repeal was signed by Governor Lynch making him the only Governor in the country to ever repeal parental notification.
