Ask Your Legislators to Pass HB 701

This past week, the committee of conference agreed on a final version of HB 701, a right to try expansion that would give terminally ill patients greater access to next generation treatments in development.

HB 701 contains several vital improvements to our existing right to try law that will give patients greater access to new treatments including a limitation on civil liability, approval for remote prescreening and signing of consent forms, and the right of a provider or patient to seek injunctive relief against a state regulatory or law enforcement authority that is obstructing their treatment.

The right to try expansion, named after former state representatives and bill champions John Lewicke and Michael Yakubovich, has the potential to make the Granite State a national leader in biotechnology

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

To send the bill to the Governor’s desk for signing, the House and Senate must now affirmatively vote on the committee of conference report. HB 701 is on the House consent calendar, meaning that it is highly likely that it will be unanimously adopted in that body.

We urge you to contact your Senator and ask that they vote YES on the bill as passed by the committee of conference.

Additionally, we encourage you to contact Gov. Ayotte and ask her to sign the bill into law to make New Hampshire the best jurisdiction in America for access to experimental treatments for the terminally ill.

Committee Restrained Abortion Statistics Amendment to HB 712

HB 712, a good bill which would prohibit breast surgery for minors, was unfortunately amended to include text copied from SB 36. SB 36 was a fatally flawed abortion statistics bill, with text drafted by lobbyists to benefit the abortion industry, which Cornerstone opposed.

The amendment would have allowed abortionists to submit manufactured statistics, with no penalties, which DHHS would then publish as true. Then, this false data could be used to drive future policy decisions.

Thankfully, the committee of conference reigned in the dangerous abortion statistics language, amending it to include a viable enforcement mechanism, providing protection against false statistics driven by the abortion industry.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

We encourage you to thank Reps. Jim Kofalt and Steven Kesselring for their work in the committee of conference to ensure that this dangerous legislation was not passed into law.

You can email them at Jim.Kofalt@gc.nh.govand Steven.Kesselring@gc.nh.gov.

Legislation Submitting Churches to Unfair Taxes & Discrimination
Reigned In

The House unfortunately altered SB 291 before passing it, amending it to add an imposed spending condition on churches, directly jeopardizing to tax exemptions of several NH churches.

Thanks to your work and the work of the church throughout the state, this past week, the committee of conference agreed on a version that removed this dangerous language, and the bill, while not the version we would have liked, no longer poses a threat to multiple churches in our community.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

We encourage you to thank Senator Daryl Abbas for his work in the committee of conference to remove the dangerous language that posed a threat to churches. You can contact him at Daryl.Abbas@gc.nh.gov.
