HB 1416 — Protect Pregnancy Resource Centers from State Agencies

The Senate Judiciary Committee recently held its hearing on HB 1416 — which protects pregnancy resource centers from being forced by government to perform abortions, provide contraception, or refer clients for those services. The committee vote is coming. Your call today could make the difference.

This bill passed the full House 176–163. Pregnancy resource centers across New Hampshire serve women with compassion and material support during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Allowing government to coerce them into violating their mission would gut the very thing that makes them effective. Codifying these protections now addresses real vulnerabilities — not hypothetical future scenarios.

Anyone can call the committee members — and we encourage every Cornerstone supporter to do so. That said, calls carry extra weight when they come from a senator’s own constituents, so please especially call if you live in one of the districts below.

Sample script: “Hi, I’m a constituent calling to urge Senator [Name] to vote YES on HB 1416. This bill simply protects pregnancy resource centers from being forced to violate their mission. They serve women in need — the government shouldn’t be able to coerce them. Thank you.”

HB 1735 — Act Now to Expand Right to Try for Suffering Patients

Last year, Cornerstone led the charge on New Hampshire’s Right to Try law, protecting access to cutting-edge treatments for the terminally ill. Now we are proud to endorse HB 1735, which has completed its Senate Health and Human Services Committee hearings and now awaits a committee vote. It passed the full House 181–151 and represents a generational opportunity to make New Hampshire the premier destination in America for cutting-edge medical innovation, promote medical freedom, and serve patients in need.

Life-changing emerging therapies are being created here right now. But we’re losing ground. Montana and Florida have already built more competitive frameworks. One provider that creates bone grafts for injured and deformed people manufactures its products in Manchester but can only sell them in Florida. New Hampshire has everything we need to be the best — we just need the law to match the opportunity.

The FDA has no viable pathway for commercializing individualized gene therapies or individualized cancer therapies. State right-to-try frameworks fill that gap. This will not be the “Wild West.” Patients are still protected by DHHS regulation, malpractice liability, and professional licensing.

Whether this bill advances depends heavily on three Republican senators on the HHS Committee. Anyone can call — and calls from their own constituents carry the most weight.

Sample script: “Hi, I’m a constituent calling to ask Senator [Name] to please vote yes on HB 1735. This bill expands access to life-saving experimental treatments and will keep New Hampshire’s most innovative companies from going to other states. Thank you.”

HB 1268 — Protect Home Education from Government Overreach

HB 1268 has passed the Senate Education Committee 3–2 and is now headed to a full Senate floor vote. That means every senator’s vote matters. Now is the time to contact your senator directly.

Under current law, homeschooling families are required to file notices of intent, maintain portfolios, and complete annual evaluations — requirements many parents find intrusive and unnecessary. HB 1268 makes those requirements optional rather than mandated, trusting parents — not bureaucrats — to direct their children’s education. It passed the House 174–166.

“The freedom to direct our children’s education does not come from the state. It comes from God, from the natural rights of parents, and from the responsibility families bear for the next generation. And it should never depend on a permission slip from the state.” — Shannon McGinley, Executive Director
