Today, these 13 Republican representatives courageously used their vote to uphold the sanctity of human life, withstanding massive pressure from House Republican leadership to turn their backs on preborn babies and oppose a moderate 15-week bill, HB 476:
Rep. Barbara Comtois – Belknap 7
Rep. Gary Daniels – Hillsborough 43
Rep. Susan DeRoy – Strafford 3
Rep. Diane Kelley – Hillsborough 32
Rep. Katelyn Kuttab – Rockingham 17
Rep. David Nagel – Belknap 6
Rep. Jeanine Notter – Hillsborough 12
Rep. Kelley Potenza – Strafford 19
Rep. Katherine Prudhomme-O’Brien – Rockingham 13
Rep. Jennifer Rhodes – Cheshire 17
Rep. John Sellers – Grafton 10
Rep. Shane Sirois – Hillsborough 32
Rep. Len Turcotte – Strafford 4
Despite overwhelming pressure to defend late-term abortion, these 13 leaders bravely placed their status and ambition on the line – putting their conscience, their constituents, and New Hampshire’s preborn babies first.
They truly represented the pro-lifers who have been politically marginalized by the NHGOP and championed the most vulnerable Granite Staters – even though the latter can’t promise them anything in return.
The motion to withdraw HB 476 passed in a division vote, in which representatives vote but do not go on record in a roll call. Rep. Kaitlin Kuttab then courageously called for a motion to reconsider and ensured there was a roll call. These last thirteen pro-life reps voted YEA. Review the roll call HERE.
Cornerstone applauds their exemplary bravery and encourages pro-life Granite Staters to reach out and thank them for strongly standing for life. Find contact information for these pro-life representatives HERE.
Leading up to the vote on the motion to withdraw HB 476, Cornerstone has remained consistent and firm in our support of the bill. We’ve also been transparent about efforts to destroy the bill. You can read our summary of those efforts HERE, including about deceptive attacks on the bill.
Some Republican legislators may claim that they would theoretically support another pro-life bill. Some will posture as if this bill, because it did not restrict any abortions before 15 weeks, was actually too compromising. History will show clearly that these Republicans have no intention of voting for another abortion restriction again.
In decades of New Hampshire political advocacy, Cornerstone has never seen the level of coercion and deception used against this bill. Republican leadership pledged to pull representatives from their committee seats if they supported the bill and cajoled representatives with other offers and threats.
Opponents of the bill falsely told pro-lifers that a committee hearing had been canceled and not to show up.
Republicans who insisted that no abortion restriction should go to the floor switched to pretending that the bill sold out babies younger than 15 weeks. Many legislators promised to support the bill before opposing it days or hours later.
These 13 legislators overcame it all. “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?”
