Support the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban, HB 1679 (2012)

(Note: HB 1679 became law after Governor Lynch’s veto was overridden in June 2012.)

Cornerstone asks legislators to keep these points in mind while considering HB 1679. We strongly favor this bill to prevent partial-birth abortions from being committed in the Granite State.

  • The bill is about a particularly barbaric procedure, not about the right to choose abortion. (See Gonzalez v. Carhart, 2007)
  • Partial-birth abortions blur the line between abortion and infanticide, and New Hampshire has an interest in keeping that line sharply drawn.
  • Claims that this procedure is not performed in New Hampshire are unfortunately unverifiable, since NH does not collect abortion statistics.
  • Women’s health and the prevention of infanticide are both legitimate public interests promoted by a ban on partial-birth abortions.
