CONCORD, NH – Today, Cornerstone Policy Research announced its new Executive Director, Kevin Smith, and outlined its legislative initiatives for 2009.

CPR Chairman, Shannon McGinley, began, “It is an exciting new day for Cornerstone Policy Research, as it gives me great pleasure to formally announce the arrival of Cornerstone’s new Executive Director, Kevin Smith. Kevin’s background in both the public service and faith-based realms is quite extensive having: served as a state legislator, worked for a former US Senator and Governor, and served as the state’s liaison to the White House Office of Faith-based Initiatives. Needless to say, we are very optimistic about the days ahead for Cornerstone under this new leadership.”

CPR Executive Director, Kevin Smith, delivered Cornerstone’s vision and legislative agenda, while being flanked by supporters for parental rights.

“This year, Cornerstone Policy Research-Action, the legislative advocacy arm of Cornerstone, will be tracking and testifying on a number of pieces of legislation,” Smith said. “We want to ensure: that tax burdens are kept low so that more NH families may enjoy financial freedom, that the institution of marriage is not diluted by changing its definition, that the quality of life in New Hampshire is not ruined by the building of casinos, and that parents retain their rights as parents in issues of school choice and healthcare for their children.”

Smith added, “This afternoon, I am heartened have many parents behind me who care deeply about their children’s welfare and do not take the responsibilities that accompany parenting lightly. They are a mix of moms and dads who have decided that the educational needs of their children can be best met at home; while another group is here because they feel when their young daughter is considering a major medical procedure such as an abortion, they have a right to be notified so that they may lovingly counsel their child. And together, a common bond ties both of these groups: they know what’s in the best interest of their child better than the government does – and we agree with them.”
