Help Protect Churches from Unfair Taxes & Discrimination

Last week, the New Hampshire House Ways and Means Committee heard testimony on SB 291, a bill that, in its original form, would have expanded churches’ tax exemption to cover housing on church property that falls into one of these categories:

  • Housing for church employees
  • Housing provided as part of a residential program
  • Rental units provided as part of the religious mission of the church

Additionally, SB 291, as originally written, would have protected churches that operate housing from discriminatory zoning enforcement and help expand affordable housing in NH.

In its current form, the bill has been substantially weakened.

With your help, we are committed to amending and restoring the bill to its original intent and impact.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

⛪️ ️ Read our FAQ about SB 291 and how it would help churches and communities. Encourage your pastor or faith leader to contact the committee in support of the bill.

📩 Contact the House Ways and Means Committee and ask them to pass an amendment to restore the bill to its original form. You can find the members’ emails below:

Ask Senate to Support Patients’ Right to Try

Last week, the Senate HHS Committee heard powerful testimony on the right to try expansion that would give terminally ill patients greater access to treatments in development. The bill is now in the Senate.

By providing greater legal protections for patients and providers and incorporating common-sense enhancements, HB 701 promises real relief for terminally ill individuals desperately seeking access to promising treatment options. It will not only advance life-affirming healthcare in New Hampshire, it will make our state the best jurisdiction in the country for clinical trials and seriously ill patients who are urgently seeking additional treatment options.

Unfortunately, because of the very protections that will make these treatments more accessible, the organization representing plaintiff attorneys is diligently lobbying the Senate and encouraging them to oppose this vital legislation to keep their path to litigation open. Imagine the heartbreak for the terminally ill individuals and their families who are denied a potential lifeline because of a medical provider’s fear of being taken to court.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

✅ HB 701 will soon have an executive session in the Senate HHS Committee. During an executive session, the committee will vote to recommend the bill as OTP (ought to pass) or ITL (inexpedient to legislate).

📩 We urge you to contact the Senate HHS committee and ask them to vote OTP (ought to pass) on HB 701. Specifically, ask them to protect and maintain the civil liability waiver. Without this vital element of the bill, experience has shown us that seriously ill patients will not have meaningful access to treatments that could extend their lives.

Call on Congress and the FDA to Pull the Dangerous Abortion Pill

A shocking new report released this week exposes a devastating medical reality: the abortion pill gravely harms women.

The study is the largest ever real-world analysis of the abortion pill. It found that the “rate of serious adverse events following mifepristone abortions is at least 22 times as high” as reported by the FDA on the drug label.

According to the research conducted by the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC), nearly 11 percent of women who took the pill experienced sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or other serious adverse events within 45 days of taking mifepristone to induce an abortion.

The EPPC based its research on data from all-payer insurance claims, which revealed that more than 94,000 complications were reported among the more than 865,000 prescribed mifepristone abortions between 2017 and 2023.

Cornerstone is joining organizations across the country to call on the FDA to revoke approval of mifepristone immediately while further research is conducted to protect the health and safety of women.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

📝 Use this simple online form to call on your US Representative and US Senator, as well as Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Martin Makary, MD, to revoke the FDA approval for the abortion pill, also known as mifepristone, to protect the lives of women.
