Rep. Colette Worsman, a Families First Pledge signer and Hero of the Family who voted with Cornerstone 100 percent of the time, is running in the four-seat Republican district of Belknap 2 (Gilford & Meredith) along with Kevin Leandro, another Cornerstone supported candidate.
Rep. Worsman said she was proudest of her votes to protect parents’ rights to be involved in their children’s health care decisions. Most important, she said, was her support of the new parental notification law (HB 329), which allows parents to be involved when their daughters are considering an abortion.
“There are many whose self-interest would collide with the health and safety of our children,” Worsman said. “If re-elected, I will continue to fight for the right of parents to direct the health, welfare and education of their children. These are critical issues for the future of our nation.”
Rep. Worsman, who served on Finance Committee Division I during the past session, also had an opportunity to work with state departments on spending reductions that honestly balanced the state budget and paved the way for lower taxes at the same time, she said. Some of the cuts made were “heart wrenching,” but it was critical for the Legislature to match spending with realistic revenue projections, she said.
“I approached the state budget no different than my home or small business,” Worsman said. “We cannot spend more than we take in.”
Upon re-election, Worsman said she would request the Finance Committee again so she could also continue to fight for fiscal prudence.
