Rep. Anne Cartwright, a hero of N.H. families who voted with Cornerstone 100 percent of the time, is running for re-election and seeking the representative seat for Cheshire 2 (Alstead, Marlow & Surry).
Rep. Cartwright, who just finished her first term in the House, served on the Children and Family Law and Constitutional Review and Statutory Recodification committees. On her primary committee, Rep. Cartwright supported a constitutional amendment to protect parental rights. The amendment (CACR 9 in 2011 and CACR 31 in 2012), sponsored by Rep. Dan Itse, very simply states: “Parents have the natural right to control the health, education, and welfare of their children.”
Rep. Cartwright sponsored HB 1416, a bill that requires the following warning statement to be printed on consumers’ water bills when their water is fluoridated: “Your public water supply is fluoridated. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, if your child under the age of 6 months is exclusively consuming infant formula reconstituted with fluoridated water, there may be an increased chance of dental fluorosis. Consult your child’s health care provider for more information.” Dental fluorosis can cause anything from white streaks or specks in the enamel of a child’s teeth to permanent discoloration that can darken over time.
Among other notable efforts that didn’t make it in the past session, Rep. Cartwright co-sponsored a Woman’s Right to Know Act (HB 1659), which would require physicians, at least 24 hours before a planned abortion, to provide a woman considering the procedure with medically accurate information about her child and the abortion method that would be used as well as the long-term risks of having an abortion and alternatives to having an abortion. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Jeanine Notter, would also have required the disclosure of several other pertinent information points that would help save innocent children’s lives.
Additionally, Rep. Cartwright sponsored HB 1634, which raised awareness about the United Nations Agenda 21 land control efforts. Stopping Agenda 21, which is eroding property rights in the name of sustainability, is now part of the national Republican platform, and many Democrats are also taking a stand against it. Rep. Cartwright is known to be planning further action in this regard upon re-election.
